A Hymn of Hope for the Vicitims of Hurricane Katrina

Here is a hymn a wrote a long time ago on the topic of hope in suffering. May the victims of Katrina find hope in the sovereign power of our Heavenly Father.

It may be sung to "Sweet Hour". I suggest opening this link in another window.

The Sufferer's Hope (When Sorrow Comes)

When sorrow comes and my heart knows
The weight of God's most crushing blows,
My soul will hope, my faith will stand,
In knowing that it was His hand.
My soul would faint, my faith would sink,
If I were ever forced to think
My very worst and darkest hour
Were greater than His sov'reign pow'r.

I rest in knowing He's the one
Who sends the clouds that block the sun.
For He grows faith through bouts with pain
As flowers blossom from the rain.
In this my bout with pain is won:
That He has claimed me in His Son
And does as every Father should--
He gives the gifts He knows are good.

No depth below, nor height above
Could ever keep me from Your love.
For if You gave Your Son to bleed,
You will supply me ev'ry need.
O Lord, be gracious help I seek,
Remember that my flesh is weak.
O Father, give me eyes to see
That You work only good for me.

Text: (c) Eric Schumacher (1976- )
Tune: SWEET HOUR, William B. Bradbury (1816-1868)
