4 year-old: Dad, are you famous?

Dad: No, I’m not famous.

4: What’s “famous” mean?

D: Well, it’s when lots of people know your name.

4: Am I famous?

D: No, not really.

4: Andrew Peterson knows my name.

D: Yes, that’s true. He saw the video of you playing guitar and singing one of his songs.

4: Is Andrew Peterson famous?

D: Yes, Andrew Peterson is somewhat famous.

4: So then I’m kind of famous.

D: Yes, I guess you are kind of famous.

4: Does Andrew Peterson know your name?

D: No, he doesn’t.

4: [giggling] That means I’m more famous than you are!

Our 4-Year Old "Andrew Peterson" sings "Gather Round, Ye Children, Come"

I posted earlier about my 4-year old's infatuation with guitars. He also loves the music of Andrew Peterson.

In fact, he often claims that he is Andrew Peterson. And when an AP album is on, he's quick to point out, "I wrote that song."

He'll often put on AP's Christmas album, Behold the Lamb, get his guitar, and put a music book on his music stand, and then strum and sing along with the entire album. (He doesn't read music, can't play chords; and the song book is the Sovereign Grace song book.)

We've had a hard time catching him doing this on video. He's bashful. I usually have to stand in the other room and peak to watch him. Plus, when he does play, he likes his music loud, which makes it hard to get his voice on the video.

But, my wife persisted, and she finally got a fairly good recording of him singing the opening track, "Gather 'Round, Ye Children, Come." (Sorry, the guitar is not even close to being in "tune.")

Good Reading: The Fiddler's Gun & The Fiddler's Green, by A.S. Peterson

 

If you haven't read The Fiddler's Gun, you should! It was one of my favorite reads in 2010. 

The conclusion, The Fiddler's Green, is being released this month. It's not for little kids, but for a young adult and older audience. It would make an excellent two-book gift for the readers in your life.

The books are written by A.S. Peterson, brother to Andrew Peterson, author of the  continuing and excellent Wingfeather Saga: On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness (book 1) and North! Or Be Eaten (book 2).

Why Russian Bears Don't Need Frigidaires

Our kids (okay, and me too!) absolutely love the album Slugs & Bugs & Lullabies from Andrew Peterson and Randall Goodgame. (If you don't have this album--buy it now!!! Yes, even if you have no kids or grandkids. The kid that dwells in you [deep down there somewhere] will absolutely love it. You won't grow sick of hearing it over and over on long car rides. I promise.)

One of the songs, Bears, contains a verse, which speculates on why bears in the arctic circle don't need refrigeration (see video below of Andrew singing it):

No, polar bears don't need Frigidaires to keep their carcasses cold,
Low temperatures keep let-overs, no flies, no maggots, no mold.

(Did I mention that this children's album is not for the squeamish?)

Apparently, however, Andrew's answer is not always the case. So says the headline of a recent article in The Guardian:

"Russian bears treat graveyards as 'giant refrigerators' - A shortage of bears' traditional food near the Arctic Circle has forced the animals to eat human corpses, say locals."

I'd like to see that worked that into the next Slugs & Bugs CD!

Andrew Peterson: Concert in Cedar Rapids

Andrew Peterson will be making a stop in Cedar Rapids on October 8 as part of his tour to promote his new album Counting Stars.

Amazon has Andrew Peterson's book, The Ballad of Matthew's Begats: An Unlikely Royal Family Tree, for less than $6. It is based off the song of the same title on his Christmas album, Behold the Lamb.

Ray Van Neste, in his Amazon review, comments:

My family has really appreciated Andrew Peterson's Christmas album, so a book from one of the songs on that album was of immediate interest to us. The lyrics which are the backbone of this book come from a song tracing the genealogy of Jesus as found in Matthew's gospel.
