Good news for Iowa City, the city that leads the nation in per capita abortions.
One mile from the Emma Goldman Clinic, Choices Medical Clinic will open its doors later this month, providing an alternative for pregnant women.
That is good news, unless you're pro-abortion. As this article reports, dozens from the University of Iowa Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance came out to protest an open house for Choices.
Their reasoning? Protestor Laura Kacere explains:
And, given Ms. Kacere's concern for "comprehensive education," we can rightly assume that she and her cohorts from from the University of Iowa Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance will be protesting the Emma Goldman clinic in the near future, demanding that women seeking abortions will be given a "comprehensive education" about abortion.
This, naturally, would include education on and the offering of 4-D sonograms, visual illustrations of the abortion, information on fetal pain in an abortion, information on the possible emotional and physical side-effects of abortion, and - for the sake of comprehensive ethical education - information on the lack of a morally crucial dividing line to differentiate the status of the "fetus" and a newborn baby, allowing one to be killed but the other to be protected by law (that is, the mother should know that professional ethicists cannot agree on a reason why killing a child in the womb is acceptable while killing one outside the womb is not).
After all, one must admit that the education wouldn't be comprehensive without such information. Videos, x-ray images, scan results, visual illustrations of the procedure (with pictures and physical models), and the like are commonly offered to patients for anything from having a tooth pulled to open heart surgery. Why wouldn't such be offered to those considering abortion?
Therefore, I can only assume that, unless the Emma Goldman Clinic offers and encourages the use and consideration of all of the aforementioned, she is planning a protest of the Emma Goldman Clinic.
She must, because, in her words, we wouldn't want women going to the Emma Goldman Clinic and choosing abortion "with the idea that they're getting a full comprehensive education" about what an abortion involves.
