And so I was encouraged by Justin Taylor's post today, quoting from David Powlison's essay “Reading the Bible for Personal Application,” which is in the ESV Study Bible and the forthcoming collection of essays, Understanding Scripture: An Overview of the Bible’s Origin, Reliability, and Meaning.
Powlison writes of many such passages, “These passages do apply. But most of the Bible applies differently from the passages tilted toward immediate relevance.”
